The History of D'Tandoor Food Industries can be traced back to the year 1984 when an ambitious and determined young man started working in Northern Indian Restaurant, Shezan in Subang Jaya. The man is none other than Abdul Malik Abdullah, Founder and Managing Director of D'Tandoor International Group of Restaurants.

Abdul Malik is from Penang and had his primary education in Pykett and secondary education in Methodist Boys School. After working in Shezan, Abdul Malik was given the trust to run and operate Shikara which had outlets in Bangsar and Petaling Jaya but at the end, it had to be closed due to economic slowdown. Then, he joined Kelab Aman for 4 years from 1986 to 1990 which was considered the 'commando training' for Abdul Malik and his wife Mumtaz Begum Mohd. Sidek in the process of making them prepared to open their own restaurant and face the real challenges.

In 1990, he decided to migrate to Sydney, Australia to look for better opportunities and fresh ideas to be brought back and implemented in Malaysia. While he was there, he did the Diploma Course in Business Management. In 1993, he came back to Malaysia and opened the first D'Tandoor Restaurant in Damansara Utama with cofounder, Tan Hun Kim. Since then, d'Tandoor has become the pioneer and a household name in Malaysia and expanded overseas.

We now have seven franchised outlets and seven of our own.
We have worked together within the Malaysian Government to promote Malaysia in our overseas outlets under the Malaysia Kitchen Programme.

As for the first few years after opening the first branch, D'Tandoor has also been awarded as

Malaysian Best Restaurant by Malaysia Tatler for four years in a row.

Other than that D'Tandoor has also been awarded 2 awards from Malaysian Book of Record for the longest non-stop Naan cooking and for being the first North India Food franchisor in Malaysia.

D'Tandoor team made Malaysia proud when we catered for the prestigious International Indian Festival Film Fare Award (IFFA) for 8000 people held in Genting Highland with coming up with a buffet of All Indian Cuisine with 101 dishes. The Indian Embassy was really impressed and made us their panel caterer.

Australian Times had voted us as the Best North Indian Restaurant in Perth. Other than that, Malaysia Franchise Association (MFA) awarded us as the Most Promising Franchisor in 2005. In 2005 Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC) awarded Mr. Abdul Malik as the Entrepreneur of the Year in2005, for our contribution in fastening the realationship between Australia and Malaysia.

Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) also awarded us as Best Indian Restaurant for three consecutive years; 2005/2006/2007.

Malaysia Canada Business Council (MCBC) has been encouraging us to promote D'Tandoor Malaysian Restaurant in Canada because they were really impressed with our food quality and hospitality. They had awarded us two awards, which are Industry Excellence for Franchisor and Industry Excellence for Food and Beverage.

In 2009/2010 we awarded the "Best Malaysian Indian Restaurant in Malaysia, by Malaysia Tourism Awards from the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia in the year 2009/2010 presented by Dato Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

We also received the Recognition of "ASEAN's Most Recognized Brand" from the ASEAN Retail Chain and Franchise Federation (Malaysian Chapter) in 2010/2011 from the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Dato Muhyiddin Yassin.

We are now planning to expand our outlets in every major state in Malaysia and are also looking into China, Indonesia,Dubai and Khazakstan.

We had gone through hardship in business but today, we are proud to say that D'Tandoor Malaysian Restaurant is the biggest North Indian Restaurant chain in Malaysia with 15 outlets. D'Tandoor is also the first North Indian Food Franchise in Malaysia. D'Tandoor was established around 20 years ago and it is the best choice you have in Malaysia
